Proof of Concept

Feasibility Testing: From procuring equipment to real-world testing, we examine the plausibility of script ideas for actual production.

Legal Substantiation: We work closely with Business Affairs to provide context and evidence of how things actually work. We help justify claims made in a spot through custom ‘substantiation’ videos.

Technical Validation: When a brief is based on a real-world story, we confirm the product is portrayed accurately in every step of the production. This includes interviewing potential talent and evaluating their use of the product.

Though a large portion of our work is done before production starts, we also play an integral role during production to make sure everything goes according to plan.

Scouting: As a production takes shape, we visit potential sites to verify the technical resources needed for a shoot.

Product Training: We work with talent to coach them on how to use devices and apps. We also work with directors to set appropriate expectations of how the product works.

incite Digital

Our digital department started in 2011 to support MAL in their growing scope of web-based projects. The strategy was to assist the agency’s iTunes360 team by mirroring their staff, so MAL Digital could focus on the client’s Marcom needs. Our staff of designers, art directors, developers, project managers, and quality-assurance personnel are devoted to full-time partnership with the MAL Digital team in an effort to build and maintain high quality web content under the client’s rigorous standards.

Design and Development

Under the direction of MAL Digital producers, we have become a key partner in the day-to-day operations with all things iTunes. Our designers aid MAL in setting the creative standards for the increasingly popular iTunes Radio buys. We also handle static, dHTML, and HTML5 needs for iTunes360. In addition, our digital team is frequently utilized for design and development related solutions for broadcast commercials.

Quality Assurance

Our QA team is involved in overseeing implementation of every dHTML and HTML5 campaign with meticulous detail, making sure creative adheres to the client’s aesthetic and functional standards. Our developers built custom bug tracking software, which helps multiple users track and report bugs in real time. Currently we have a roster of 40 QA testers handling multiple campaigns across 77 platform and browser variations.

iPad Love

For the iPad Love campaign, incite helped determine how a transportation design student might use the iPad to design a car. Our design team conceived and created the model car that would be used on camera in both physical and digital form, and our project manager worked with MAL art directors, producers, and business affairs to ensure aesthetic and legal clearance in under 4 days. During the process, we created over 100 original designs and sketches for the set, aiding in the representation of an authentic design studio environment. On set we coached talent on how to interact realistically with the clay model and the product.

“Love” allowed us to demonstrate our proficiency in determining truthful product representation, coordinating between agency and talent, and producing technical, camera-ready materials in a narrow time frame.

Powerful

MAL identified multiple technologies to showcase for the iPhone 5s campaign and incite played a key role in exploring and testing these technologies. This involved extensive research of consumer products as well as creating proof-of-concept videos to verify their capabilities. We built remote triggering systems using offthe- shelf components to demonstrate the ability to wirelessly set off confetti cannons and launch rockets. Ultimately, our team developed the custom iOS app that triggered the remote launch of multiple rockets seen in the final spot. Our technology producers were on location for every shoot to handle the product and assist talent with the launch.

This project is just one example of our expertise in exploring technical possibilities and transforming them into actual, custom solutions.

1.24.14

The most ambitious campaign in our history, 1.24.14 spanned 15 locations in 10 countries with nearly 1000 crew members to shoot a commercial in a single day. To prepare for a feat of this magnitude, we devoted hundreds of man-hours and created dozens of inventive solutions.

At the heart of the campaign was the Command Center, a production studio equipped with an array of Apple products. Our role was to enable a single director to conduct the entire shoot from this Los Angeles location. To create such an experience, we constructed direct streams between the Command Center and each of the 15 teams stationed around the globe.

For each team, we designed specially tailored kits for world-renowned cinematographers to shoot on the iPhone 5s. These kits allowed the iPhone 5s to tether to our video relay solutions, such as satellite broadcast trucks and internet video streaming equipment, and also provided hookups for local monitoring and redundant power supplies. Our preliminary technical scouting coupled with our product configuration led to seamless connectivity. Once a location wrapped, we securely transmitted hundreds of gigabytes of footage back to Los Angeles.

From sunrise in Melbourne to midnight in Aspen, we brought the world to the city of Los Angeles for the 30th anniversary of the Mac.

The All-New 2016 Cruze 

The Chevy “Real People” campaign recruited non-actor participants to engage in a marketing focus group ruse for their broadcast commercials.   In this particular Emoji spot, we were asked to create a custom iOS app that allowed users to choose emoji responses to the the facilitator’s questions.  As the participants tapped their choices in the iOS app, high resolution images of the emojis selected were instantly output to a large display on set for a visual pay-off on camera.
